the good old times

it was just a weird moment today, i drove back to the city from an interview and came to a crossroad. the traffic lights were out, so a cop was taking care of the traffic. i’ve probably never ever seen somebody taking a job so seriously as he did, slowly moving his hands in opposite directions, halting cars giving way to others. but there was also joy in his face, joy that he was there to help people, that he was proud of making sure that crossroad stayed safe for us, the drivers. it must have felt like this in the good old times.

i believe.
