sometimes i wonder if i chose the right thing, professionally. i wonder if the stress, the long working hours and everything else that comes with being a journalist really pays off. and then i saw the letter, sitting openly in our secretary’s mailbox. it read: “dear mr. editor. thank you for your letter offering me a present for being a subscriber to your newspaper for the last 60 years. i’d love to choose one of the presents you offered me, but i am afraid i am too old to have any use for them. i just wanted to tell you that i have enjoyed your newspaper for the last 60 years, thinking of me and thanking me is enough. as my husband died years ago and my children have moved away, your newspaper is my window to the world and even my children living abroad read it whenever they have a chance to get hold of a copy. so again thank you from a loyal reader, mrs. xxx” all the doubts are gone.

i believe.
