I remember what I though: “He’ll never get up.” Then he started moving and you could see his breath condensing on the visor. When they finally carried him off the ice, nobody though he’d return for the game or even the series. Never before and after have I seen a more dedicated player, a more dedicated sportsman than Paul Kariya, after he stepped back on the ice in that very same game. To see him skate down take that shot and ring it home top-shelf still stands as my favourite hockey moment of all times. Simply because it seemed to be made for the love of the game.
