La Vita รจ bella!
After the homesickness recently, somehow the last two days have chased all those bad feelings away and everywhere I look I am reminded of just how wonderful life is, wherever I am. Today I spent Christmas Eve with just a few people: one of my housemates, a friend I have known here for more than 2 years now and two italians who I hardly know. To any outside observer we might have appeared to be a strange mixture of people, but it worked. A group of people who all understand what it is like to be away from family and friends at this time, but who are not going to dwell on this but rather share what we can with each other and most of all, live.
It paints quite a picture really: the homesick Aussie, celebrating Christmas in America, with a bunch of Europeans and aside from the occasional language barrier which is easily fixed with a dictionary, eveyone was just happy to be here. Tomorrow my sister arrives, and we add something new to the mix…
Life is truly beautiful.
