America decided.
John Kerry led a bold, brave campaign. Some may call it flip-flop, but I have to admire any man, especially any politician who has the guts to say that he might have been wrong and would change his opinion.
After living so long in an America I could believe in, what I still cannot understand is why the american people voted the way they did. I don’t understand why issues of ‘moral’ importance (although the definition they use confuses me) come so far ahead of matters of world and even national security and how a nation where so many have so little can continue to think so selfishly.
Whatever the reasons for his win, four more years of Bush scares me because of one thing I am sure. He will never change his mind and never admit his error, even when the future of much of the world depends on it. Mr Bush, this is no sign of strength, but of the greatest weakness.
To John Howard I also say, whatever you may personally believe do not forget that you lead a democracy and must speak for all of Australia. We asked that Mr Bush not comment on our own Australian politics and it is inexcusable for you to comment on the US presidential race as you have.
