My Mum used to always say this when I was a kid but for a long time I was too young to understand what she meant. Time and life has changed that and the events of the last 9 days only remind of how true this is.

I can’t begin to comprehend the magnitude of the tsunami that destroyed the nations of the indian basin but I am buoyed by my nation’s desire to help, with more aid coming from the citizens than the government to date. Please give now, but whatever you do, don’t forget out asian neighbours and continue to support their efforts to rebuild over the next 10 years or however long it will take. Remember that these people are all someone’s daughter or son, brother or sister, mother or father and that nature doesn’t discriminate: it could so easily have been any one of us.
