A year in the Antipodes.
Today was the first day of the new academic year and the day of my first real lecture. It wasn’t until last week that I realised that this means one year since I came home. It’s gone so fast that sometimes I feel like I’ve missed so much of it and lately it even feels like I’ve lost touch with the world outside of my immediate environment. After the rush of moving house two weeks ago, the added pressures of work during ‘grant writing season’, the visit of a confused sister, and the disappointing news of last week I’ve finally had a weekend in which I had the time to reflect on all that has gone right in the last year. More than anything I realised that it is time to again take stock of my life and to learn to live again at a pace that allows me to appreciate all that around me every day.
I’ve been gone a long time, but this time I’m back and I’m not leaving again anytime soon.
