Today is another sad day for Australian politics and consequently Australia overall. In the early hours of this morning the government took full advantage of its absolute majority position to push through the full sale of Telstra that so many Australians absolutely opposed. While I am one of the lucky majority of Australians living in an urban centre I fear for my countrymen in the outback and all rural areas and what this will mean for their basic right to adequate telecommunication services. This is one issue that is about far far more than money and short term game, and we as Australians should be ashamed that it happened on our watch.
Unfortunately this is all overshadowed by the release today of the diaries of an angry man, determined to destroy what remains of the only political party likely to lead Australia into a more positive future any time soon. Coincidentally, this is the very same man who offered so much promise one year ago, destined to be the next Prime Minister, but instead leading Labour to an embarrassing defeat. Mark Latham, you had my absolute support then, but at a time when our focus should be on the damage that this government is wreaking on this country, I feel such disappointment by your actions.
