They flocked to the high sierras again yesterday, with the sun, moon and mountains again in perfect alignment to capture the same image as Ansel Adams did 55 years ago. As I thought about how much I would have liked to be there to experience this moment it occured to me that cameras and other technology aside, the beauty in his orginal image lies in its uniqueness. For some reason though we all expend so much effort throughout our lives in attempts to recapture the classic moments, only to realise that they only existed for that instant. Like 300 photographers though, through our efforts we can hope to create new moments, many that will match or even exceed the beauty of that which we cling to in our memories.

“Seize from every moment its unique novelty, and do not prepare your joys.”
