Klagenfurt/Austria. Some people have a very special aura around them. the dalai lama is one of them. on his visit to klagenfurt the life-long friend and pupil of heinrich harrer paid a visit to the university of klagenfurt, where he held a speech on world peace that turned into a dialogue about young people, education and the future. i was there to cover it for the newspaper and i am still amazed by this witty yet wise man, who really seemed to enjoy talking to the students. the catholic church headed by bishop alois schwarz apparantly still found it unneccessary to welcome the dalai lama, head of tibet and peace nobel prize winner to carinthia. i don’t want tp speculate about the reasons, but i figured it might be the fact, that he showed us a different kind of religion: open, positive and ready to enjoy life at its best. things our church could learn a lot from.
