austria will be electing a new government in november. november right. well heinz-christian strache’s right-wing national party has entered the battle already with “battle for austria” posterlights. to understand the situation better: the former austrian freedom party (fpö) split into the now “old” fpö in jörg haider’s “alliance for the future of austria” (bzö): so yes, austrian can be now be credited with two right-wing political parties. wow – great. what the elections will bring – god only knows. but no illusions about their respective election campaigns: it will be an all-out anti-eu, anti-foreigner, anti-everything war. great thing: it took us only 60 years to forget what rose austria from the rubble after WW2. i just pray and hope that austrians will be clever enough to show both, heinz christian strache and jörg haider, that our future should look a bit different than in their twisted view of this world.
