austrian politician jörg haider a couple of days ago proposed a vote on weither austria should stay or leave the european union. well, haider has done weirder things like that, but even better: no austrian newspaper (including the kleine zeitung) really cared. there were small articles, mostly 5- or 10-liners about it. nothing else. in this very second i realized, that europe – though there’s a ton of problems waiting to be solved – is not an imaginery thing anymore. people around here slowly start to believe, even if there is criticism. and that’s why a populist’s idea like mr. haider’s doesn’t get any chance anymore.
