when i got back to work and told about the philippines and the level of poverty i had seen in some places there were some things said that really disturbed me. a colleague of mine said “well i’ve seen poor countries but believe me, those who want to make it, make it. the others just don’t want it” – now if we match this with the american way of believing that you can make it anywhere that may be fine. but this world is neither fair nor equal. and even if i want to believe that anyone could make it – it just ain’t that way. because some don’t get a chance. some don’t get a shot. the moment she said it, i wished god would teach her. teach her, that “making it” doesn’t mean money, nice clothes or the sports car she is driving. “making it” to me means believing in god, myself and ulitmately happiness with what i have been given.

i believe.

  1. It’s interesting that you mention the american way of believing because this reminds me so much of Berkeley. There you have an amazing campus, full of kids who have it all at their feet, just because they go to that school but unfortunately many of them are quite ungrateful. What so many of them fail to see is that the reason they have all this is not just because they were good enough, but because they were good enough AND had opportunities that so many missed out on. It’s always struck me as strange that they couldn’t see this because it is all there, right before their eyes. If they only explored their own city a little more they would see the poverty, the missed opportunities and perhaps better understand the anger this injustice breeds.

  2. If you want to trace the root of poverty in our country, you need to start with how fractional reserve banking was created and how these money lenders eventually gained control of the politicians and the countries through the creation of debt. Some nations are more exploited than others and are powerless coz they are under the barrel of a gun. Trace back in time and you will see that Europe is the source of control which eventually spread throughout the world. The Philippines used to have an enormous gold reserve, the whereabouts of which are subject to suspicion as a result of dubious machinations. War is but a smokescreen to plunder. Seek and ye shall find.
